Meet Dr. Erlange Elisme, DSW
TRAUMA-INFORMED LEADERSHIP STRATEGIST AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONSULTANT
Dr. Elisme provides trauma-informed leadership consulting, resilience training, and professional development for healthcare and education organizations. Drawing on more than 30 years across education, school social work, and community advocacy, she helps leaders understand how chronic stress shapes behavior, burnout, and workplace culture.
Understanding the Why Behind the Behavior
Behind every organizational outcome, strained team dynamic, and missed deadline are people responding to the conditions around them.
As a Behavioral Health Consultant and Trauma-Informed Leadership Strategist, I help healthcare and education organizations look beneath the surface. Rather than treating burnout, withdrawal, or staff tension as isolated performance problems, I help leaders examine what may be shaping those responses.
My work brings together the science of human behavior, chronic stress, and resilience. I translate that knowledge into practical strategies leaders can use in everyday decisions, difficult conversations, and high-pressure moments.
The goal is not simply better performance. It is steadier leadership, stronger trust, and workplace conditions that allow people to do meaningful work without being depleted by it.
From School Hallways to Leadership Strategy
Guiding Principle: Behavior Makes Sense in Context
My path into trauma-informed work began in schools. As a school social worker, I met children whose behavior carried stories their words could not yet express. I also worked alongside exhausted teachers, stretched families, and leaders responding with limited time and resources.
Over time, I saw the same pattern in adults: our histories and environments shape how we connect, make decisions, and respond under pressure.
Although my professional roots are in education, these patterns are not confined to schools. Healthcare and education both ask skilled people to remain present, compassionate, and precise while carrying sustained pressure. My role is not to teach clinical care. It is to help leaders understand how stress influences behavior, communication, and team culture.
Those field experiences, together with my doctoral study, became the foundation for the E.L.I.S.M.E.™ Resilience Model and my supporting frameworks.
I do this work because understanding the why changes how we lead. It helps leaders respond with greater clarity and care without abandoning accountability. This is not therapy. It is behavioral health consulting focused on leadership, workplace culture, and the systems shaping people’s work.

A Pivotal Leadership Moment
Starting Over Taught Me What Steadiness Requires
Some leadership lessons are learned long before we receive the title.
When my son was fifteen months old, I made the difficult decision to leave a situation that was no longer sustainable and move from Florida to Georgia. I left behind a job I loved, my family, my faith community, and the support system I had always known. I arrived in a new state with a young child, limited help, and no clear map for what would come next.
Starting over required me to navigate unfamiliar systems, rebuild my professional life, and make important decisions while the future remained uncertain. It taught me that clarity does not always arrive before action. Sometimes clarity develops as we protect what matters and take the next responsible step.
That season continues to shape how I understand leadership. Steadiness is not pretending the pressure is absent. It is recognizing what is draining our capacity, releasing what can no longer be sustained, and moving forward without losing sight of the people affected by our decisions.
Outside the Work
When I am not consulting, teaching, or developing something new, you will often find me cooking, dancing, volunteering in the community, or spending time with family. My kitchen frequently smells like the food of my childhood, and music has a way of finding me whether I planned to dance or not.
My son used to join me for nearly everything. These days, he has his own schedule, prefers limited camera appearances, and still does not appreciate my jokes as much as I think he should.
We spend less time side by side now, but watching him step into the world and become his own person remains one of the quietest, steadiest joys of my life.
A science-based, culturally responsive partnership

EVIDENCE-INFORMED
We translate research on behavior, stress, trauma, and resilience into clear leadership strategies without unnecessary jargon.

CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE
We approach each engagement with cultural humility, considering how identity, language, lived experience, and organizational context shape the workplace.

PRACTICAL BY DESIGN
Our tools are created for staff meetings, difficult conversations, and high-pressure moments, not only for the training room.

BUILT FOR CONTINUED USE
We help organizations carry the learning into everyday leadership practices, team routines, and workplace decisions after the engagement ends.
Let's Work Together
Ready to transform your organization's culture?
Every team carries its own pressures, patterns, and strengths. If burnout, staff tension, or turnover is becoming harder to manage, let’s explore what is happening beneath the surface and identify a practical next step for your organization.
OUR COMMITMENT
We help healthcare and education organizations look beneath visible behavior to understand how stress, trauma, unmet needs, nervous system states, and personal history may be shaping what happens above the surface.
Using trauma-informed practice, cultural humility, and proprietary frameworks such as the I.C.E.B.E.R.G.™ Method, we help leaders turn that understanding into everyday decisions, team routines, and organizational practices. Our commitment is to support workplace conditions where people can contribute with greater steadiness, dignity, and trust, with particular attention to experiences that are often overlooked.
